The Far North Wilderness Bicycle Tour
The Far North Wilderness Bicycle Tour is taking a break in 2008. We will be back pedalling in 2009
19-26 September 2009 - Cardwell to Cairns via the Rainforests and Wilderness of FNQ.
Eight unforgettable days of cycling, swimming, learning and relaxing through some of Australia's most spectacular country (560 km). 50% sealed back roads, 50% OK dirt service roads. Best suited for MTBs, or tourers with wide tyre. All proceeds of this ride will go to the Cairns and Far North
Environment Centre.
One of the best wilderness bicycle tours in Australia, the Far North Wilderness Bicycle Tour attracts riders from throughout the nation. Far North Queensland is one of the world's premier eco-tourism destinations, and the tour travels through a range of beautiful areas including World Heritage rainforests and dry Eucalyptus woodlands.
Aboriginal history of the bike route: The land we travel through in the area of the Herbert River region is the country of traditional aboriginal owners who still have close links to this land. The organisers of the tour recognize the stewardship of this area by the traditional owners over countless generations, so that we can enjoy the land's pristine quality today. Likewise, we thank the aboriginal people of the Ravenshoe area for sharing the best of their country with us.
