Which of our incumbent and aspiring representatives can demonstrate the leadership and vision to take the Cairns region towards a sustainable future?

The Cairns and Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC) deals with the results of Local Government decision making every day and is often asked to represent community concerns regarding decisions made at the local government level. Many responsibilities relating to regional planning and their implementation are largely a Local Government responsibility.

The competency and efficiency of Local Governments in adhering to, applying and policing regulations fundamentally effects the long term ecological health of the region.  Also of great importance is the "world view" and future vision of our elected council, as this will shape their decisions, and ultimately our region.

CAFNEC also believes leadership and vision is vital in bringing about sustainable development. As with the decisive global action that is required to meet the challenges faced through Climate Change, decisive and applied action is required on a local level. It is clear we are currently not doing enough to protect, preserve and and enhance our region's irreplaceable values.

The Questionnaire given to all candidates asks for their views and visions on a sustainable regional future. We offer no analysis, only the opportunity to the compare responses for yourself.
